First Entry in MECMA 2024 Concert Series Lands at Zabeel Theatre
Monday 5th February marked a special day at the 2024 Middle East Classical Music Academy, as attendees got to experience a symphonic concert headlined by one of the biggest violin stars in the world, followed by a unique performance by the Seoul Metropolitan Female Choir.
Hosted at the Zabeel Theater in the 5-star Jumeirah Zabeel Saray hotel in Dubai, the concert saw Austrian violinist Sergei Dogadin, the winner of the IX Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition; and First Prize and Golden Medal recipient at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition, join forces with conductor Mikhail Kirchhoff and the Eurasian Symphony Orchestra in a performance of the Violin Concerto No. 6, 'Carpe Diem', from the pen of renowned contemporary composer Alexey Shor, an optimistic and lively piece expounding a powerful zest for life that is replete with rich and expressive melodies and sublime orchestration.
“It was a really wonderful concert,” one audience member remarked. “Mr Dogadin is such a brilliant violinist and it was amazing to see him on the stage in performance.”
Expressing similar sentiments, another attendee noted that “I really enjoyed listening to them perform. The piece by Alexey Shor is very beautiful, and I hope I’ll be able to play it myself some day.”
Following the interval, the audience were then treated to a variety of South Korean songs and dances presented by the Seoul Metropolitan Female Choir, in a charming and memorable performance that celebrating the multicultural spirit that is at the heart of MECMA.
In addition to the concert, the Academy also marked the beginning of its violin competition today, with the young musicians showing their skills and newfound knowledge in front of their peers. This competition is set to continue tomorrow, with further students taking to the stage throughout the course of the day.
