MECMA 2024 Celebrates the Baroque with Lecture Led by Hae-Young Kim and Ashley Wass
Students at the 2024 Middle East Classical Music Academy went on a journey back in time on Thursday 8th February, as they flocked into the Sky Zayed Hall at the Two Seasons Hotel to attend a lecture delivered by two of the top pianists of our time.
For this event, South Korean professor Hae-Young Kim, the President of the Piano Society in Korea, former Dean of Academic Affairs and Head of Graduate School at Chugye University for the Arts in Seoul, and Piano Professor and Head of the Piano Department at Chugye University for the Arts, was joined by UK pianist Ashley Wass, a former professor at both the RCM and RNCM, and now Director of Music at the Yehudi Menuhin School in both the UK and Qingdao.
Together, the two led the Academy attendees on a fascinating discussion about the Baroque, the stylistic characteristics of this period, and the influence and lasting legacy that it had on the development of classical music.
Tomorrow, the students will be returning to the hall once again, to continue the conversation on the Alexander technique in conducting that was first initiated on the 3rd of February, before a classical music concert on the 10th of February that will be hosted on the stage of the majestic Dubai Opera in downtown Dubai.
