Viola
Andrey Usov was born in 1979 in Sverdlovsk, USSR. In 1996 he graduated from the Special Music School at the Ural Conservatory (studying with Professor Valery Averin) and the following year began his soloist career. In 2002 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory (Professor Yuri Bashmet and Professor Roman Balashov).
Since 2002, he has been a member of the "Romantic Quartet", one of the best chamber groups in Russia, frequently performing in cultural centres of Russia and Europe. The ensemble takes part in many international festivals, cooperates with famous musicians of our time. As a member of this ensemble, Andrey Usov became a prizewinner of the International Shostakovich String Quartet Competition in Moscow (2004).
As a soloist, he was twice prizewinner of the Yuri Bashmet International Viola Competition "Viola Masters" (1997, 2006), winner of the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition (Great Britain, 2000). Laureate of the "Triumph" Youth Award (2010).
Since 2007, he is an artist of the "Moscow Soloists” chamber ensemble (Artistic director, conductor and soloist - Yuri Bashmet). Currently, Andrey Usov is also a member of the string quartet formed within this group.
He took part in festivals in Montreux, Verbier (Switzerland), Sydney (Australia), Bath (UK), BBC Proms at the Albert Hall in London, "Prestige de la Music" in the Salle Pleyel and "Sony Classical" at the Theatre Champs-Elysées in Paris, in Evian, Tours (France), "December Nights of Sviatoslav Richter" in Moscow.
Andrey Usov is also a permanent participant of the Moscow Chamber Music Festival "Vozvrashchenie".
Among his chamber music partners are names such as: Yuri Bashmet, Natalia Gutman, Misha Maysky, Julian Rakhlin and many other famous musicians.
