Young-Jin Choe became principal bassoonist of Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra in Tokyo, Japan in 2005, the first from South Korea. As a young bassoonist he performed and participated with the Asian Youth Orchestra, Jeunesses Musical World Orchestra, Pacific International Music Festival among others. In his native South Korea, he won the first prize at the prestigious Dong-A Music Competition in Seoul, South Korea. He is a graduate of Hannover Musikhochschule Soloklasse in Germany with professor Dag Jensen, and won the first prize of the Bayreuth International Competition bassoon division in Bayreuth, Germany. Shortly after he won the Bayreuth International Competition in Germany, he became principal bassoon with Trondheim Symphony Orchestra of Norway. He has substituted as principal bassoon of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic of Japan, and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra of Seoul, South Korea as well. As a soloist, he has appeared with Tokyo Philharmonic, Hoffer Symphony Orchestra, Wernigerode Symphony of Germany, KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korean Symphony, Busan Philharmonic and Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestras of South Korea. He has played as principal bassoon for PyeongChang International Music Festival of Korea, Karuizawa Music Festival, and Narashino Sinfonietta of Japan.
